Streetline aims to make Smart Cities a reality through the use of sensor-enabled mobile and web applications.As a senior member of our Systems and Network team, you will have responsibility for our current Ruby on Rails (RoR) SaaS infrastructure. You will help drive operational efficiencies and scale our services to meet continuing customer demand. In this technical role, you will be expected to quickly come up to speed with the various hardware and software platforms that make up Streetline?s SaaS platforms. You will manage all hardware and virtualized OS platforms, implement appropriate monitoring and alert systems, troubleshoot problems, lead projects, and consult with our senior personnel to expand and enhance current service offerings. This is a strategic initiative for the company and we are looking for a seasoned systems engineer with a wide array of skills.
Responsibilities
Perform day-to-day system administration duties on an as needed and on-call basis
Linux server security, capacity planning, and build-out of a high availability infrastructure
Monitor and improve application/server performance, stability, security, and availability
Build tools to ease infrastructure provisioning and scaling
Continuously extend and improve infrastructure components to handle growth
Investigate failures, implement new server monitoring and tuning technologies
Build tools to support continuous deployment
Maintains formal documentation of managed systems and networks
Provide second level support in a 7x24x365 support environment
Required Experience
Experience with cloud services (AWS, SoftLayer, RackSpace, etc)
Experience trouble-shooting and deploying applications on Linux (Chef, Puppet, etc)
Comfortable with database optimization, administration, and deployment (MySQL, MongoDB, etc)
Ability to implement server monitoring and tuning technologies and tools (Nagios, Zabbix, etc)
Experience with infrastructure security (OpenVPN, etc), TCP/IP and networking principles
Software development or scripting experience (Ruby, Perl, Python, PHP, etc.)
Desire to work in a fast paced environment
Experience writing system documentation and operational procedures
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Bachelors of Science in Information Technology or Computer Science or equivalent experience
Preferred Experience
Comfortable with shell scripting to tie together UNIX tools and system monitoring utilities (Web Services)
Appreciation for continuous deployment and continuous integration (Jenkins, TestLink, etc)
Understanding of Hadoop and Map/Reduce concepts a plus
Security training and implementation experience
Knowledge of networking principals and implementation
System monitoring, notification, and alerting experience
Build tools to support continuous deployment
