Senior Director, Accounting
Summary of Responsibilities:
Ellie Mae is now delivering the next generation of mortgage technology services that are changing the way people run their businesses. We are looking for an outstanding individual who can work together within the finance team reporting to our Vice President, Controller. Direct areas of responsibility include financial and accounting oversight, ensuring compliance with GAAP, internal and external reporting, revenue recognition, and regulatory compliance. You will work closely with the company?s outside auditors and SOX 404 consultants as well as internal operational teams to develop, implement and maintain effective business and accounting controls. Act as a key business partner to the company?s Vice President, Controller and Chief Financial Officer and as a significant interface with department managers and leaders of functional areas across the company.
Primary Responsibilities & Objectives:
Manage team to ensure accurate and timely monthly close process, including the preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, revenue detail and flux analyses
Develop, maintain, and ensure our accounting policies and procedures are in accordance with GAAP
Assist in the design, implementation and maintenance of SOX 404 to ensure compliance with accounting and control systems
Manage team to ensure clean quarterly reviews and year-end audits
Interface effectively with auditors, external tax accountants and valuation specialists
Advise management and staff on complex or new accounting transactions and GAAP issues which could impact the company
Assist in preparation of quarterly and year-end SEC reports
Streamline accounting processes, improve efficiency and drive best practices
Special projects as requested, including technical accounting research, writing accounting memos and reviewing appropriate revenue recognition positions
Qualifications, Skills & Education:
BA/BS in Accounting; MBA preferred
CPA with 10+ years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 6 years of supervisory experience
Several years audit experience with Big 4 or Regional CPA firm
Experience preferably in a small to medium sized high-tech, public company
Advanced knowledge of US GAAP, FASB, SEC standards and filing requirements, and SOX compliance
Familiarity with concepts, practices and procedures surrounding critical accounting functions
Knowledge of different ERP software systems; Great Plains experience preferred
Strong proficiency in Excel
Unquestioned integrity and ethics
Confident self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision
Supervisory and leadership skills
Excellent written and oral skills
