Summary Description:
The Electrical/Controls Engineer?s principal responsibilities are to provide technical leadership for development through successful commissioning of new, automated manufacturing equipment. In addition, this position will provide technical leadership and support for improvement, advanced troubleshooting and modification of existing manufacturing equipment and processes.
In this role, the candidate shall be responsible for the electrical, control and data collection systems design and safe, reliable performance of the associated equipment or systems. The candidate will at times design, construct, program debug and document systems. However, many projects will involve specifying requirements and overseeing others in the accomplishment of project tasks.
The Electrical/Controls Engineer shall report to the Engineering Manager and work principally with Manufacturing, Technical Engineering, Maintenance, Facilities, outside contractors and equipment suppliers to achieve objectives either as team leader, team member or individual technical contributor.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop and maintain design standards for production equipment that assures safe, reliable operation and facilitates troubleshooting, maintenance and repair.
Assures production equipment conforms to applicable safety standards, regulations and codes.
Demonstrates safety leadership in day to day activities, equipment design and management of project resources.
Specify, design, evaluate, troubleshoot and commission power, control and data systems for automated production processes, equipment and instrumentation.
Participate in qualification of new or improved processes, equipment or products.
Manage and lead project teams in execution of small to medium projects involving electrical utilities and automated manufacturing equipment.
Oversee work of vendors, contractors and maintenance personnel working on assigned projects.
Support manufacturing by providing advanced troubleshooting and technical support for improvements or modification to equipment or processes.
Responsible for the creation of electrical, control and data systems documentation for new and modified production equipment. Contributes to development of operational and maintenance instructions.
Train operations and maintenance personnel on new or modified processes and equipment.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
BS Degree in Electrical Engineering (minimum).
7+ years of electrical/controls engineering experience in an automated manufacturing environment.
Solid understanding of NEC codes and their application.
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations for machine safety and guarding.
Significant experience in programming and troubleshooting PLC, HMI, VFD and servo motion control systems.
Experience in the design of electrical and control systems for automated manufacturing equipment.
Experience in specification through commissioning of automated production equipment.
Project management experience.
Strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to solve complex problems and to innovate.
Good verbal, written, computer and organizational skills.
Strong attention to detail and deadline oriented.
Desirable Qualifications:
Proficient at programming and troubleshooting Allen Bradley Control Logics PLCs and experience programming PLC for large/complex equipment and processes.
Experience with use of distributed control systems.
Experience with SCADA systems for acquiring production equipment performance and quality information.
Experience in power distribution design in industrial environment.
Knowledge of design for combustible environments.
Experience in new plant startup or large industrial/automation projects.
Previous experience/certification in lean manufacturing, 5S and/or Six Sigma.
Travel requirements:
Domestic and International Travel to suppliers, trade shows and other sites will be required on a variable basis.
