Senior Electronics Systems Engineer

Summary

nLIGHT is uniquely positioned to capture a rapidly growing segment of a global consumer product manufacturing market. There is currently an opportunity for a Laser Systems Engineer to join our Product Development Team. The prospective candidate would collaborate with optical, mechanical, and software engineers in the development of multi-kilowatt laser systems for large-scale production lines.

It is an ideal challenge for a person who is highly motivated and capable of engineering current- and next-generation laser systems that are core to the company's fast growth rate.

Requisite skills and background

Lead the development and integration of laser electronics and embedded software systems.

Electronics

• Control systems and circuit designs involve analog, digital, and power electronics
• Compliance testing and certification for international safety standards, EMC, and environmental regulations (UL, CE, IEC, etc)
• Detailed understanding of micro-processors and microcontrollers
• Experience with electrical controls packages and selecting and integrating a broad spectrum of components and subsystems
• Formulate and produce complete electrical design packages including detailed schematics, cable routing diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials and material requisition forms

Software

• System software for control, communications, and built-in test
• Generate software development documentation, from system software requirement specifications to verification/validation plans

Systems

• Define system-level architectures for industrial laser products
• Systems level architecture and system software design, development and test
• Lead system design reviews to communicate and validate key decisions.

Qualifications

In addition to a BS in Electrical Engineering / Computer Science, and a minimum of 7 years design experience, the successful candidate will need proven design and implementation capabilities in these areas:

• Flexible platform-based system architectures, circuit design and imbedded software
• Safety interlock subsystems and related safety compliance certifications (UL, CE, IEC, etc)
• Analog and digital system interfaces for controlling high-power lasers
