Position Summary:
We are looking for an experienced test engineer to come join our excellent team of quality professionals. This individual will work as part of the device development team to design, develop, and execute tests and test suites for new and ongoing product development. This person will work closely with engineering in the creation and
review of testable functional specifications. The Firmware Test Engineer may work with or coordinate internal or third-party test resources to accomplish test objectives.
Responsibilities:
Working with development team members to perform unit testing for specific projects
Participate in creation of testable firmware specifications based on available product documentation
Develop test plans based on product documentation and functional specifications
Design and develop tests, software and hardware test fixtures, test data sets, and automation tools where required
Execute test plans and test activities or monitor and report on testing performed by third parties or internal test resources
Interface with various development and test teams to provide feedback and reporting on project status
Scope and provide time estimates as well as triage and assign work to other team members
Work with Technical Support to categorize customer reported problems
Education/Experience:
Bachelor degree in computer/engineering related field or equivalent work experience
Minimum five years of firmware and/or hardware testing experience
Extensive experience using Linux/UNIX platforms and shell utilities
C, C++ programming experience highly desirable
Scripting experience in Tcl, sh, expect, Perl, C#, or Python. Familiarity with SQL
Experience testing wireless communications, video, audio, and GPS
Knowledge of SAE electronic component test requirements
Experience using oscilloscopes, DVMs, programmable power supplies, terminal servers and other common measurement instrumentation devices
Qualifications/Requirements:
Must have a solid understanding of testing principles, practices, and reporting procedures
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills with an aptitude for precise detail
Must be able to develop, follow, and maintain a detailed test plan and communicate changes and/or improvements
Must possess the ability to read and follow hardware schematic drawings
Must be creative, persistent,possess problem-solving skills, and be willing to work with others to find solutions that avoid project stalls
Must be responsible, self-motivated and passionate about testing and innovation, have a solid work ethic and have a desire to produce a quality product
Must have a proven ability to complete work with limited supervision
Must have the ability to work in a fast moving environment with a strong tolerance of ambiguity and skills to define specificity
Must possess a strong team orientation
