As a Senior Embedded Hardware Engineer - Networking, you will help architect, design, and develop embedded hardware and firmware based systems for use in the latest Belkin, Linksys, and WeMo brand consumer and business networking products, including wired and wireless routers, gateways, range extenders, switches, and smart home devices.
Contribute to product line roadmaps as well as product ideas, definitions, specifications, feasibility, and schedules. Collaborate with electrical, firmware, software mechanical and manufacturing engineers, product developers and other engineering teammates located in Playa Vista, Irvine and globally. Lead, oversee, and review design work done by engineering and manufacturing partners in Asia.
You will have current system and circuit level engineering experience with latest networking chipsets from Broadcom, Qualcomm, Marvell, Mediatek, Realtek and other industry leaders. Oversee and assist our partners with the design, debugging, troubleshooting, and documenting of high speed mixed signal hardware including 32bit microcontrollers with high speed memory and I/O interfaces including gigabit Ethernet, USB3, and SATA. Participate in design reviews of the overall architecture, block diagrams, chipset selection, schematics, BOMs and PCB designs for products built with high-speed, mixed signal multilayer PCBAs. Provide leadership for creating and managing power and heat rise budgets during product planning and development. RF experience with 2.4 and 5GHz Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and Bluetooth radios and antennas is a plus.
You will also be familiar with new product introduction activities as part of transition to manufacturing. This position requires a self-starting individual who can deliver on commitments made without a lot of guidance, solving problems with creative out-of-the-box thinking tempered by experience and overall corporate objectives.
Excellent command of oral and written English is essential. Command of Mandarin is a plus.
How you?ll do it
Lead, oversee, direct, and/or review the design, analysis, and testing of residential and commercial wireless and wired networking systems built with single and multicore 32 bit MIPS and ARM embedded microcontrollers and SOCs that use on chip and external high-speed RAM and flash memory as well as USB 3, Ethernet, SPI, JTAG, and other standard and custom I/O interfaces.
Work closely with Firmware and Software Architects and developers to create both standard and custom solutions for new and innovative embedded system based router designs.
Work closely with outsource engineering, manufacturing and other external resources and represent Belkin interests on-site as part of an engineering team.
Occasional domestic and international travel.
Work closely with internal Sourcing and Supply Chain partners and chipset vendors to identify, qualify and recommend new chipsets having strategic value for use in new products.
Represent Engineering?s interest in the identification, qualification, and selection of new ODM and JDM manufacturing partners.
Work closely with Program and Product mangers to create product specifications and development schedules.
Design compliance to EMI/EMC, and Safety regulations.
Prepare, present and lead peer to peer and cross functional design review meetings
Commitment to working independently and in a team environment.
What you?ll need
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree, or may have a Master of Science degree, in Electrical Engineering from a four year college or university, or equivalent combination of education & experience.
Employees entering this job typically have a minimum of ten years of directly related experience in embedded systems design and development with a demonstrated record of leadership, and a proven track record in designing and shipping microcontroller based wireless networking hardware and firmware using Internet Protocols.
Demonstrate working knowledge of cross-functional and related technical areas such as mechanical design, component location and sourcing, quality techniques, regulatory compliance.
Ability to prepare and present technical material to a wide audience including nontechnical clientele will be helpful.
Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills.
Previous experience supervising others.
Proven analytical problem-solving ability.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
