The Sr. Software Engineer (Bioinformatics Verification and Test) will invent and refine novel software engineering approaches to bioinformatics challenges of our SMRT sequencing platform. The ideal candidate will have an MS or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or Biological Science, preferably with several years of relevant experience integrating sequencing technologies, tools and platforms. He or she will be working in a fast-paced environment, interacting with scientists and engineers from a variety of backgrounds, to integrate and verify analysis / bioinformatics components and tools. Strong software engineering skills are desired as the candidate will potentially contribute to and maintain customer-facing code. The ability to design, test, document, and communicate your results to diverse audiences are also important aspects of this role.
Responsibilities include:
? Work closely with fellow team members to design and implement tests for the scientific validity of bioinformatics tools.
? Implement and automate functional, integration and performance tests.
? Execute rigorous data analysis investigations in support of company?s scientific goals.
? Demonstrate strong and effective inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff.
? Perform job functions with minimal or no supervision.
Position Requirements:
A MS/Ph.D. in Computer Science or Physical Sciences required, preferably related to computational biology.
Experience with Linux required. Software development experience with Python or another scripting language (e.g. Perl) is a must. Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills is a must. Experience with Java (or equivalent) is desired. Experience in test automation is desired. Good understanding of object-oriented design and software architectures is desired. Experience in distributed computing is desired. Knowledge of the following is desired: molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, and statistics. Experience in continuous integration (e.g. Jenkins) is a plus. Experience in virtualization (Virtual Box, KVM, VMWare) and/or cloud computing a plus. Product development and / or industry experience in a multi-disciplinary Biotech environment is a plus.
