SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION:
This position is for a Sr. Fiber Optical Engineer who would be responsible for the design, implementation and testing of the fiber optical elements for our Free Space Optical (FSO) Communication link. The responsibilities will also include the design and test of suitable transmitters and the design and/or procurements of the receiver optical subassembly. We are looking for an individual who is a self starter, energetic, and results oriented team player with positive attitude and excellent people skills.
The individual should have demonstrated leadership skills with a thorough understanding of receiver technology and have prior experience setting up high speed (2.5G and 10G) DWDM optical links. The fiber optic engineer will be responsible for implementing the appropriate receiver technology for our current FSO commercial product, the testing of ROSA's, transceivers, EDFA, and other optical components from supplier. They will leading the effort in developing future higher speed FSO fiber optical backend architecture.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the definition of the FSO fiber optic backend design, technology, performance metrics, and operating envelope.
Identify, test, and qualify the receiver, transmitter, and transceiver components. Iical backend with the free space optical system
Analyze test data, recommend areas for link reliability improvement and lead the effort to either design in-house or manage external development of custom receiver/modems.
Identify and procure optical components, test equipment, hardware, and software needed to setup high speed DWDM FSO links. Take complete ownership of defining test plans, executing tests, and analyzing test data.
Lead technical discussions fiber optical design trade offs and be the company expert on high speed optical links.
May require technical team leadership of design engineering staff, in a matrix environment.
QUALIFICATIONS - KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS- EXPERIENCE:
M.S. in engineering, a Ph.D. is a plus.
5+ years of industrial experience in fiber optics industry.
Previous experience with free space optics is a plus
Solid background deploying fiber optical components (filters, receivers, transmitters
Hands on experience with setting up high speed DWDM links and a thorough understanding of the components and equipment involved.
Prior experience with receiver (ROSA) design and implementation.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
