Job Description
To support our rapid growth, we are seeking talented, motivated Senior IT OPS Engineers to join our office in Chicago. Primary responsibilities include building and managing hosting infrastructure, managing application deployments, 24x7 response for critical issues and building / assisting in general infrastructure growth and development providing innovative and leading edge solutions to our customers. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge technology / systems with a talented team.
Please Note: Aptitude testing is required for all positions
Duties
Doing 24x7x365 rotating on-call critical response on customer facing issues
Managing customer cases, including upgrading their environments to the latest release versions
Supporting infrastructure systems (servers, switches, routers, Firewall and ASA) in co-located data centers
Mentoring/ Training junior IT OPS Engineers
Being responsible for all customer communications, including escalations and handling of special requests
Helping establish IT/OPS processes/ standards and ensure SAS70 / PCI / ISO27001 compliance for all IT OPS processes
Being responsible for all coordination with Customer Support and Development teams
Being responsible for upgrade scheduling and case backlog monitoring
Building and configuring Linux systems to support large-scale web applications and databases
Doing performance tuning, problem research/resolution, code reviews and deployments, SQL support, and data movement
Backups / Recovery and High Availability
Monitoring the system health and proactive problem resolution
Opportunity to rise to a managerial role
Adhering to all BigMachines security policies, standards and procedures in the performance of job duties
Participating in security training provided by BigMachines
Reporting any potential security weakness, exposure or suspicious indications to manager
Skills/Requirements
A minimum of a Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science or related software engineering discipline, or equivalent
5+ years? experience in LINUX systems administration and programming
Strong knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration
Good knowledge of internet protocols (e.g. SMTP, HTTP, DNS)
Knowledge of firewall, load balancing, and SSL
Excellent communication, quick study, and strong troubleshooting skills
Strong motivation to learn
Ability to establish work priorities and manage workload autonomously
Knowledge of web/application servers like Apache, Tomcat, JBOSS, etc. is desirable but not must
Knowledge of database systems, including Oracle 10g and above, MySQL, etc. is a plus
