Senior Linux Systems Administrator VFA

VFA is seeking a Senior Linux systems administrator on a permanent basis. The position is part of an existing team supporting a fast-growing environment incorporating many new infrastructure management technologies. The ideal candidate is affable, effortlessly competent, a quick study, and capable of context switching between longer-term projects and items of immediate concern quickly and efficiently.
Job Responsibilities:
Maintain, document, and monitor the performance of and existing install base of approximately seventy servers and twenty-five workstations.
Participate in ongoing infrastructure improvement projects, such as:
Build out datacenter(s) for disaster recovery.
Provide a smooth release process for a live, 24-7 database driven web application.
Implement SLA management into a system-monitoring framework.
Provide an easily administered and well-sequestered QA environment.
Tune the OS level performance of Linux servers based on their roles in the infrastructure.
Set up and maintain new servers as needed.
Provide on-demand support for the Software Engineering department as they work within the Linux-based production environment.
Maintain a good relationship with vendors and with the other departments, which make use of the system administration team?s time.
Automate virtualized deployments of Linux based OS systems via configuration management tools.
Deployment and maintain patch management for Linux based OS systems.
Required Qualifications:
3-5 Years of experience with Linux, preferably in an administration role as part of a permanent position.
B.S. in IT, Computer Science, or Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
Scripting experience in both building tools for administration and in automation of administrative tasks.
Setup and maintenance of common services, for example NFS, SSH, SMTP, cron, NTP, DNS, DHCP, and Apache.
Automation and configuration management experience with tools like Puppet or VMware configuration manager
Experience Linux patch management tools like RedHat satellite server.
Working knowledge of networking concepts and network configuration in Linux.
Good time management skills, and the ability to maintain a schedule of completed tasks.
Ability to produce documentation, both of a planning and a post-hoc nature.
Familiarity with system monitoring products and their implementation.
Exceptional communication skills for the efficient communication of knowledge to a wide range of listener expertise levels.
Desire and ability to assimilate knowledge quickly and to seek out and implement new technologies.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience with SAN technology, particularly EMC VNX or VNXe.
Network Engineering concepts such as 802.1q, port channeling and trunking, 10g, network load-balancing, and firewall configuration on Cisco hardware.
Experience with high availability technologies on Linux, particularly Oracle RAC, Linux-HA, and Red Hat Clustering.
Experience with VMware virtualized environments.
Contact with blade center technology.
Enterprise backup design and implementation.
Administration of systems running Cognos Business Intelligence Server, JBoss AS, WSO2 and Oracle.
Ability to lead projects to their successful and timely completion.
Interaction with an audited, production environment, which is secured and change-controlled.
