Media entrepreneur Robert F.X. Sillerman founded Viggle after pioneering a number of successful television, radio and live entertainment ventures. Viggle is looking for a Senior Linux Systems Engineer to join our Engineering Operations team.
The Viggle mobile app, available on both iOS and Android powered devices, utilizes hundreds of servers and dozens of technologies that power our infrastructure used by millions of people daily.
As a member of our technical operations team, you?ll help design, build and maintain Viggle?s growing infrastructure that supports our mobile and web-based business.
Both colo- and cloud-based, Viggle's infrastructure spans mobile application supporting infrastructure, real-time Audio/Video content ingestion and processing, data warehousing and analytics, geo-distributed services infrastructure, and more!
The Viggle Technical Operations team is responsible for all of the hardware and software in the Viggle development and production environments.
Your responsibilities may include:
Selecting, specifying, installing and optimizing all hardware and software to accommodate intended design goals
Defining and executing all operations policies and procedures for system implementations
Monitoring and maintaining implemented solutions
Resolving all non-development related technical issues
Supporting the operational needs of internal groups such as development teams, product teams and customer service teams
Using multiple technologies to architect new solutions and solve problems with innovative, scalable and robust designs.
Representing Engineering on projects that introduce new applications, services and technologies that yield visible and measurable change in Viggle applications.
Responding to escalations to address new business needs or ongoing high impact issues.
You may be a fit if you have:
Deep expertise with the Linux operating system and its operation in a large scale production environment. Preferably a Linux distribution like RedHat, Ubuntu, Centos, Debian (we use Ubuntu).
About five or more years of advanced Systems Engineering/Administration experience in a large and distributed environment.
Knowledge of Source Control Management processes as well as build and deployment tools (Preferably Maven, Ant, Jenkins, Bamboo, Chef, Cobbler)
Knowledge of software version control and source code management tools such as GIT.
Extensive practical scripting experience in Shell, Perl or Python.
Basic ability to interpret Java Stack Traces.
Knowledge of system monitoring platforms and related technologies such as Nagios, Zabbix, Zenos, OpenNMS Netcool, SolarWinds, Splunk!, etc.
Robust troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP, network connectivity and networking equipment for both LAN and WAN topologies, including: routers, managed switches, VLANs, WLANs, NAT, firewalls, and the ability to use Wireshark.
Extensive knowledge of the OSI stack and how to troubleshoot a problem at each layer of the stack.
Extensive knowledge of server hardware from major vendors like Dell, IBM, HP, etc. and related technologies including: CPU Performance, RAID, DRAC, iLO, bare-metal restores, backup methodologies
Knowledge of Internet/Web related protocols and technologies, including: Apache, Tomcat, Web Services, DNS, registrars, SSL, web hosting providers
Virtualization platforms such as VMWare and VirtualBox
A Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science preferred
Excellent communication, documentation and presentation skills for technical and business audiences. This includes creating spreadsheets, presentations and technical diagrams as needed.
