Senior Manager, Marketing Communications PatientsLikeMe
Job Description
PatientsLikeMe is a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company that focuses on transforming the ways that patients manage their own health conditions, and changing how the health-care industry conducts research. Dedicated to improving overall patient care, PatientsLikeMe has four core values: putting patients first, promoting transparency, fostering openness and creating wow. PatientsLikeMe was founded in 2004 by three MIT engineering students, brothers Benjamin and James Heywood, and their friend Jeff Cole, after the Heywoods' brother, Stephen, was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Working with nonprofit, research and health-care industry partners, PatientsLikeMe seeks to help patients benefit from "real-world, outcome-based health data," by providing a platform for sharing experiences with other patients and with organizations whose research focuses on their particular conditions. More than 160,000 patients with over 1,000 medical conditions share information at PatientsLikeMe. In addition to its privacy policy for patients, PatientsLikeMe has an "openness philosophy" that stresses collaborating as a way to improve health-care treatment and accelerate research.
