Job Overview:
Join the Customer Insights & Analytics team and help TripIt's more than 5 million users across the globe easily organize and share their travel plans. The Data Analyst is responsible for analyzing, interpreting, and reporting on TripIt, TripIt Pro and TripIt for Business user data. As an analytics expert, you dig into the numbers to reveal the underlying story, providing insights to help the product, marketing, ad sales, business development, and executive teams make better, more informed product and business decisions. Reports to Director, Consumer Insights and Analytics.
Key Responsibilities:
Gather relevant data, conduct business analysis, and make recommendations
Manage and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly reports and dashboards critical to day-to-day TripIt operations; provide insights as appropriate
Perform periodic data analysis of key business drivers, including lifetime value, ad impressions forecast, customer segmentation, marketing campaign effectiveness, etc.
Conduct data mining and data modeling (e.g., to improve forecasting, to inform intelligent customer segmentation, to discover interesting correlations that could be used for PR or to inform new product development)
Evaluate marketing & PR campaign effectiveness on a periodic and timely basis
Execute ad-hoc queries for product, marketing, ad sales, business development, and executive teams (e.g., audience queries, custom email list pulls)
Create and deliver effective presentations of findings and recommendations to executives and other internal stakeholders
Maintain, monitor and improve data collection processes; provide recommendations for enriched reporting
Position Requirements
Education, Experience & Training required:
Undergrad degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering or related field.
5+ years of analytics experience and 3+ years of related database experience (SQL), preferably at a fast-growing online consumer technology services company
Ability to pass a background check
Required Skills:
Experience analyzing data with strong statistical, modeling, and forecasting skills
Proficient in SQL
Extensive knowledge of Excel
Comfortable with the command line, or a willingness to learn
Experience in creating professional reports, including charts and graphs, that ?tell a story?
Strong written and oral communications skills
Ability to communicate complex data analysis in a simple way
Good listener, able to ask probing questions to understand underlying intent
Excellent problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize multiple projects, both short-term and long-term
Demonstrated eagerness to constantly evolve skills/knowledge base and stay abreast of technology trends
Exhibit high degree of initiative with demonstrated troubleshooting, follow-through, and critical-thinking skills
Able to work independently and as a team player
Desired Skills:
Experience with a scripting language (Python, PHP, Ruby)
Statistics and/or data mining knowledge, and experience with a statistical tool (SAS, R, SPSS, Matlab)
Basic MySQL database admin skills (CREATE TABLE, INSERT, EXPLAIN, etc.)
Knowledge of SQL query optimization
Knowledge of database warehouse concepts and ETL
Experience with business intelligence tools (Cognos, Microstrategy, Pentaho, etc.)
