About the Job:
Twilio originates and terminates two-way voice communication between browser, and mobile devices based clients, as well as PSTN devices using its API driven cloud platform. We are looking for a senior engineering lead who will drive the initiative to improve the quality and performance of the voice communication services and libraries.
The work involves solving tough challenges related to picking and optimizing real time delivery of digital audio over diverse networks of varying quality. You will also drive the our efforts to model and measure the Quality of Service for audio.
?Responsibilities:
Lead the architecture and development of the core media stack supporting the communication libraries that our customers embed into their mobile, browser, and PSTN based applications around the world
Select and optimize the codecs used to deliver media through Twilio cloud servers and Twilio SDKs deployed on edge mobile and browser devices.
Define methods of measuring end to end Quality of Service for audio calls, and develop tools to collect and analyze the performance
Write maintainable code with extensive test coverage, working in a professional software engineering environment with source control, dev/stage/prod release cycle, continuous integration and deployment
Requirements:
5+ Years of engineering experience and willingness to work a range of mobile and server development technologies
2+ years of experience working with or implementing codecs for audio or video. You are knowledgeable about multiple audio codecs (Silk, Siren, G.729a, G.7222, G.722.1, iLBC, G726 and AAC-LC), Knowledge of video codecs(VP8, Webm, VP7, On2, H.264, AVC, SVC, H.263) is highly desirable.
Experience working with real time communication : RTP and RTCP and related protocols (SDP, SIP, etc), and TCP/UDP networking, including TCP fundamentals. A mobile networking background or experience working for a communications company is helpful
Strong understanding in acoustic echo cancellation and background noise reduction.
