Our development processes are mostly agile and entirely transparent.
We are looking for a MySQL DBA to join our Technical Operations team. The Viggle Technical Operations team is responsible for all of the hardware and software in the Viggle development and production environments. As a member of our technical operations team, you?ll help design, build and maintain Viggle?s growing database infrastructure that supports our mobile and web-based business. Both colo- and cloud-based, Viggle's infrastructure spans mobile application supporting infrastructure, real-time Audio/Video content ingestion and processing, data warehousing and analytics, geo-distributed services infrastructure, and more!
We are in the midst of a migration from Postgres to MySQL, so experience with both is ideal, but not absolutely necessary.
As part of your responsibilities, you may be asked to:
Select, specify, install and optimize all Database and Data Services related hardware and software to accommodate both current and future intended design goals.
Define and execute all operations DBA policies and procedures for development, integration and production database and data warehouse system implementations.
Review and optimize database changes prior to production deployment.
Monitor and maintain implemented Database and Data Services solutions.
Design, implement, and execute database backup/restore strategy in a high availability environment.
Troubleshoot database issues, maintain database systems availability and scalability.
Resolve all non-development related DBA technical issues with hardware and software.
Support the operational DBA needs of internal groups such as development teams, product teams and customer service teams.
Use multiple technologies to architect new solutions and solve problems with innovative, scalable and robust designs.
Represent Engineering on projects that introduce new applications, services and technologies that yield visible and measurable change in Viggle applications.
Respond to escalations to address new business needs or ongoing high impact issues.
Manage SQL cluster resources and troubleshoot errors.
Plan and coordinate database utilization, conduct growth analysis and capacity/security planning.
Identify performance bottlenecks and recommend corrective course of action.
Participate in planning and execution of recovery activities.
Plan and implement database security policy.
Work closely with Development, Operations and the IT services teams in evaluating current systems.
Develop and support replication of MySQL databases.
Advise software developers on best practices for improving performance, scalability and operational manageability of production databases.
You may be a fit if you have:
A significant amount of professional experience (perhaps eight or more years) in supporting, and a decent amount of experience (perhaps around two or more years) of professional experience acting as the final escalation point in most of the skills listed below.
Deep expertise with the Linux operating system and its operation in a large-scale production environment.
Significant experience (perhaps five or more years) as a production DBA or equivalent for MySQL or PostgreSQL databases.
Demonstrated experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL database design, implementation, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
Experience managing large-scale database systems spread over multiple servers with a lot of data (perhaps 500 or more GB of Data).
Working knowledge of operating system internals in a linux environment.
Competence in converting logical data models into high performance physical designs.
Participated in large projects/deployments that require understanding of the SDLC (software development life cycle).
Experience defining and executing database and system maintenance procedures.
Practical shell scripting experience in Bash, Perl or Python.
The basic ability to interpret Java Stack Traces.
Robust troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Experience with system resource management utilities to evaluate system performance.
Excellent communication, documentation and presentation skills for technical and business audiences. This includes creating spreadsheets, presentations and technical diagrams as needed.
Extensive knowledge of server hardware and related technologies from major vendors like Dell, IBM, HP, including: CPU Performance, RAID, DRAC, iLO, bare-metal restores, backup methodologies.
Virtualization platforms such as VMWare and VirtualBox.
Experience implementing data warehouse using MySQL, Postgres, Hadoop is a plus.
You may be a great fit if you have:
Experience implementing a data warehouse using MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Hadoop.
A Bachelor or Master's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering ? this is not mandatory.
A certification like a RHCE (although we use Ubuntu) or equivalent technical ability and experience.
A MySQL, Oracle or other equivalent industry certification.
