The Senior Network Engineer is instrumental in planning, designing, and developing the LAN/WAN infrastructure, installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, operation centers, and communication links.

Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
Provide leadership in the planning and design of the OnDemand (cloud) data center network architecture, under the direction of the Manager, OnDemand Engineering.
Investigate and recommend technology solutions as they relate to the overall network architecture and associated technologies, which includes, but is not limited to routing, switching, IP design, and load balancing.
Maintain up-to-date detailed knowledge of the network engineering discipline including awareness of new technologies, improvements/changes in network protocols, and standards changes.
Acquisition & Deployment
Based on articulated design goals: recommend purchase, deploy, and manage network infrastructure solutions including firewalls, routers, hubs, switches, network appliances and other hardware. Design requirements call for active redundancy, dynamic failover, trunking, channel bonding, and other advanced concepts.
Implement solutions with Operations in mind. All solutions must be thoroughly documented and able to be consumed and acted upon by the Operations group.
Configure all network devices to ensure reliable and secure operation.
Develop, implement, and maintain network policies and procedures.
Interact with vendors and contractors to secure network products and services.
Operational Management
Maintain up-to-date baselines for the secure configuration and operation of all network devices.
Use advanced concepts, configuration and management tools, (such as SNMP) to provide disaster prevention, notification, and recovery.
Function as the OnDemand network engineering subject matter expert working closely with a network administrator and an engineering team.
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed to provide high availability.
Regularly assess capacity, identify needs, and bring forward recommendations.
Document and obtain approval prior to making changes as part of an established change management process.
Maintain accurate documentation of all network systems.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory, related documentation, and technical specification information.
Assist OnDemand Engineering team in other functions as required.
Regular travel to the Data Center(s) (currently located just outside of Boston, MA).
Carry a pager for data center engineering escalation on-call support.
