About the Job:
Twilio is growing exponentially and we are looking for someone to build and standardize our cloud based infrastructure across multi-regions/datacenters.
We are looking for a systems engineer who is interested in building the next generation of cloud platform systems to support global distribution, High Availability (HA) and scalability.
You will receive exposure to the unique set of challenges that come from scaling a global service that has to run at 100% availability.
Automation is key to almost everything we do at Twilio. We are looking for a leading "automation" mind.
Responsibilities:
Own and manage Twilio's global cloud infrastructure.
Help design, develop and deploy secure cloud infrastructure for High Availability (HA), Low Latency and Scalability across global data centers.
Write automation tools to be consumed by the Product Development teams.
Participate in on-call rotations and work with product development teams to identify, resolve and triage production issues.
Take personal responsibility for the quality, reliability and availability of our infrastructure.
Requirements:
You are proficient in Linux systems administration and understand all layers of Linux.
You currently manage production systems with 100s of servers/instances.
You have in-depth experience deploying and managing Nagios.
You are experienced in configuring network routing (NAT, TCP/IP), firewalls, VPN and DNS.
You know what is involved in deploying and managing databases (MySQL) and taking backups.
You are a shell scripting guru and know at least one more scripting language such as python or ruby.
You are familiar with Chef and/or Puppet.
You understand the details of network protocols and network architectures best suited for a SaaS platform.
You understand OS-level virtualization well. You have setup and managed virtualized production environments.
You have some familiarity with AWS and/or other cloud environments.
You understand the basic network principles of the internet, DNS, HTTP, SSL, etc.
You don't just learn how things work, you learn why. Understanding how computers work at a fundamental level is a passion of yours.
You know agile software development processes and can thrive in an agile environment.
You focus on continuous improvement and can describe the approaches you have taken.

Bonus Points:
AWS experience.
Bachelors (preferably Masters) degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
