The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design and development of assemblies for telecom applications, including: developing the mechanical architecture; system requirements; 3D models and drawings; structured design reviews; thermal, tolerance, and stress analyses; and development plans and schedule milestones involved in the delivery of the mechanical design.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and implement the design of optical modules and assemblies and will have a good understanding of processes used to develop and manufacture complex products composed of mechanical, electrical, and optical components.
Duties & Responsibilities
Has responsibility for the overall mechanical design, performance and specifications from concept through to detailed drawings and fabrication.
? Design of new product mechanical architectures.
? Develop system requirements from customer specifications and reference materials
? Develop subsystem, component and interface specifications.
? Develop 3D models and drawings of assemblies and components, based on requirements, making design tradeoffs and working through competing constraints.
? Help develop manufacturing and assembly processes to build products.
? Track mechanical issues and implement solutions.
? Track and implement production improvements for cost reductions and manufacturability.
? Design and implement manufacturing fixtures, supporting Process Engineering and Operations functions.
? Perform research to promote future generation products.
? MS degree in Mechanical Engineering required or equivalent industrial experience.
? 10-15 years industry exposure and experience. Must have assumed responsibilities to develop complex optical, electrical, and mechanical products.
? Experience with high precision metal and optical components, including optical alignment tolerances.
? Experience and advanced proficiency with mechanical system design tools such as Pro/Engineer and ANSYS.
? Demonstrated experience with complex tolerance analyses, simulation and data analysis tools for thermal, stress, and airflow modeling.
? Experience working with electrical and hardware disciplines for board layout and integration of printed circuit board assemblies and components.
? Possesses a solid working knowledge of design review processes and procedures.
? Strong background in materials, plating and various coating materials.
? Experience and familiarity with a revision control and structured change/ECO management processes
? History of success in working with outside manufacturing fabricators and suppliers ensuring quality and timely delivery of product at the lowest cost.
? Intimacy with part fabrication, including CNC, EDM, injection molding, rapid prototyping such as FDM and MIM processing.
? Ideally familiar with compliance testing and requirements of circuit packs in the telecommunication industry.
