A DSC Senior Optical Engineer is highly motivated and ready to contribute to the state-of-the-art technology of our 3D biometrics systems. The successful candidate will design, build and test optical sub-assemblies which are the heart of DSC?s IR imaging laser radar (LIDAR) and video system and provide manufacturing-related expertise to our mechanical and production teams. Other responsibilities include specifying optical and opto-mechanical system performance parameters, and design and develop system tests to ensure proper operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Contribute to the definition of performance requirements and selection of suitable implementation approaches for optical subsystems
Design, build and test optical subsystems in the visible and IR spectral ranges
Work with the engineering team to invent novel imaging architectures and systems
Work with leading-edge optical subsystem manufacturers to design and test components and subsystems
Hands-on work with optical assemblies and custom test equipment to perform test and calibration
Provide technical leadership to a team of technicians performing a wide variety of optical, electronic or electro-optical assembly operations
Interface with various experts in manufacturing for DFx-related activities
Work with optical, mechanical and electrical engineers to create prototype optical assemblies
Participate in the generation and review of assembly, alignment and test procedures
Support the design, integration and maintenance of test fixtures
Help train manufacturing personnel to perform operations and operate equipment.
BS in physics, optics or related field is required with significant optics experience and/or concentration required.
Must have experience working in a laboratory and production environment.
At least 10 years hands-on experience in designing and building optical, opto-mechanical and opto-electronic systems, including hands-on experience with optical components and optical components design.
Familiarity with imaging systems, architectures, technologies, and designs.
Familiarity with optical design tools such as ZEMAX.
Experience with visible and IR systems design.
High level of manual dexterity and the ability to make very fine adjustments to optical apparatus. Attention to detail.
MS in Physics
Understanding of integrated optics.
Ability to obtain a security clearance by the U.S. Government if required.
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to regularly work with microscopes.
Manual dexterity required to regularly work with small hand tools.
Ability to work in a warehouse environment (standing work, perform physical tasks in hot/cold temperatures)
Individual?s primary workstation is located in the manufacturing/lab area.
