Job Description
In this role, you will provide the business leadership required to deliver successful products that combine the competitive advantages of Silver Spring?s communications modules (NICs) with partner technology. Based on your understanding of the company strategy, the market and your competitive analysis, you will participate in the definition of the strategy for your product area and will reduce this to a road map. You will play a central role in the core team charged with realizing the product integrations on your roadmap by clarifying requirements and establishing business processes as necessary. You will be a focal point with the partners whose integrations you champion. You and a program manager will drive SSN and its partners to deliver against their commitments. You will ensure that your products are properly promoted and positioned to enable sales. You will address on-going issues as the products mature. This position reports to the Senior Director of Product Management for Device Integration.
Essential Functions:
Work with other product management functions to define the product strategy for your area. Reduce this strategy to a working roadmap.
Secure the support of management and internal organizations to your objectives.
Develop and maintain partnerships necessary to offer a complete solution in the market place. You will be a key manager of the relationships with your partners, coordinating cross-company communication.
Work directly with customers to understand their requirements and facilitate enhancements to products to address their problems and opportunities.
Provide oversight on the execution of the programs you are driving - flagging, resolving and escalating issues as appropriate. You will work with the supply chain to release products.
Translate customer and market requirements into prioritized product requirements, for both the Silver Spring and partner components of the product.
Ensure that the necessary companion infrastructure is in place to enable your products to be sold as part of an integrated solution.
Understand the broader solution initiatives into which your products fit and contribute to making those solutions richer and easier to implement and replicate.
Participate in all phases of the product life-cycle, with emphasis on ?concept?, ?execution commit?, ?launch? and product end of life.
Serve as the go-to person for functional questions on the integrated product, including the partner?s component of that product. Provide internal teams with the information they need to respond to RFPs and other questions about product specifics.
Serve as a spokesperson for Silver Spring Networks? metering products, both internally and externally.
Silver Spring Networks is a global company. Partners and customers might be located in other geographies. The position requires travel, but not likely to exceed 25%.
Required Experience
5+ years of experience in Product Management. Demonstrable experience in all stages of the product lifecycle, including strategy and roadmap development, authoring of comprehensive product requirements and product positioning.
A history of working with customers in both pre- and post-sales situations.
You must demonstrate that you can obtain credibility with HW and SW engineering. A Bachelors or Masters degree in technology is preferred. Experience as an engineer is a plus. An MBA is desirable.
A history of working closely with program managers and familiarity with supply chain operations.
Experience with utility electricity meters and/or utility industry is a strong plus, as is an understanding of RF basics and network technologies: 802.15.4, ZigBee, IP networking and routing protocols.
Demonstrated leadership skills. Experience with product teams that are global and/or geographically dispersed is a plus.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. You should be forward looking, data driven and results oriented.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
