The User Experience department oversees the User Interface for all of our external and internal business applications and in this role you will be the person driving the show. You will be expected to make a difference and that difference will be highly visible to Avalaras thousands of customers. As User Experience Program Manager, you will bring together the core products of the Avalara business, namely Calc, Returns and Certs as a single coherent. You will drive the development of new user onboarding, payments, auditing, reporting and upsell and prioritize the needs of all of these projects and the capacity of the team. You must possess a blend of business, organizational, presentation, technical savvy and the drive to make those projects a reality.
You must be able to communicate with all areas of the company. You will work with program and engineering counterparts to define product release requirements and provide support for the engineering team throughout the development and release process. You will work with all other areas of the company to communicate the impact of releases, including Customer Service, Marketing, Provisioning, Compliance, Finance, Sales, Training and Legal.
Job Duties: (Include duties basic, necessary and integral to the job, and those that require highly a specialized skill or skills)
Oversee complex or large scale projects or programs from initiation to completion
Partner closely with Product Management to develop technical requirements and specifications from business plans.
Assist in the preparation of engineering project proposals including technical definition, schedule estimation and resource planning.
Operate in a matrixed environment, collaborating closely with operational roles, IT and other groups to manage critical projects on time and budget and to a high level of quality.
Drive and execute on broad, complex initiatives across product lines, providing program governance and oversight.
Establish and drive to project milestones and deliverables.
Create and manage to overall project budget / forecast.
Follow established communication / escalation and change management process.
Operate as scrum master.
Help develop and maintain scorecards and dashboards.
Capture and manage project issues and risks.
Track and improve program specific KPIs.
Communicate with offshore engineering employees to ensure successful completion of Planning and Production needs.
Mentor and coach project team members as appropriate
Experience and Skills:
Minimum of 7 years of Technical Program Management experience
Demonstrated success in timely delivery of excellent products
Experience with User-Centered Design principles
Solid project management skills
Bachelor's degree (MBA preferred)
Excellent communication skills
Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
At least 5 years experience in SaaS technology company in a program management or similar capacity.
