About the Job
We are currently seeking a Senior Project Engineer for Nexant?s Wheaton, IL location. This position will serve as a technical specialist in commercial and/or industrial processes and systems to support our energy auditing projects in our Demand Management-Energy Efficiency-Engineering Division. Successful candidates must demonstrate ability to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position. Our clients include public agencies, investor-owned utilities administering ratepayer-funded energy efficiency programs, energy end users, and energy service companies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct energy audits (both scoping- and investment-grade) at medium to large commercial and industrial facilities (from a wide variety of manufacturing, assembly, and process industry types) to identify and recommend energy efficiency improvements in systems such as but not limited to: compressed air, refrigeration, data centers, process heating, plastic molding or forming, motors, boilers, pumping, food processing, lighting, and HVAC
Provide technical assistance to support energy efficient project implementation
Write technical reports summarize results from energy audits and/or retro-commissioning services to recommend savings amounts and incentive payments
Maintain quality control of deliverable products, demonstrating technical excellence, objectivity, and clarity while maintaining project schedules
Mentor and train junior engineers on various energy efficiency projects, including energy auditing, M&V, and commissioning/retro-commissioning
Conduct measurement and verification tasks as warranted
Meet with clients to co-manage projects, present results, and develop new scopes of work
Meet overall project budgets and profitability targets
Qualifications
Bachelor?s, Master's degree or Ph.D. in mechanical or similar engineering preferred; PE strongly preferred or intent to pursue
A strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and principals, motors, thermodynamics, fluids, and heat transfer
Minimum of 5 years of experience within the HVAC design, commissioning, energy management, facility management, and/or energy efficiency industry.
Demonstrated experience in energy auditing and performing associated measures analysis
Experience in the following areas is a plus:
Design and specification of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, building automation/controls
Commissioning and/or retro-commissioning test procedures, schematic diagrams, and specifications
Building and energy modeling/simulation tools (eg Trace, DOE-2, eQuest)
Calculation of energy savings for commercial HVAC and/or industrial process energy efficiency improvements.
Cost estimating for recommended projects
Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deliverable deadlines and budgets
Excellent writing, interpersonal, presentation, and analytical skills
