The Sr. Regional Medical Scientific Liaison Director is a member of a field-based team of scientists who function as an extension of the US medical Affairs organization. This position is responsible for developing and enhancing professional relationships with medical thought leaders, including those involved in non-clinical and clinical research. This position is a key conduit in providing medical information through scientific exchange in a fair-balanced manner and provide clinical/scientific support for Aegerion and the Medical Affairs department at the direction of Medical Affairs Management.
This position will manage a regional scope within the related areas focusing on Lipidologists and Cardiologists. Working closely with the VP of Medical Affairs this position will provide strategic and operational support for developing and executing the ongoing MSL/Medical Affairs strategy. The strategic areas of focus include health-care decision maker education and research (IIT, registries, registration studies).
A successful candidate must live within the region. Ideally our first (2) candidates will reside, one on the east coast in the NY/Philadelphia area and one on the west coast, ideally in the San Francisco or LA Area.
Provide strong leadership and active operational execution to achieve excellent results.
Ensure that all interactions and activities in the region comply with Aegerion?s business guidance?s, policies, and SOPs, OIG, ACCME, FDA, and PharMA guidelines/policies
Interpret and translate strategies into regional plans and objectives including the development and execution of a regional Key opinion leader development strategy and guiding, developing and executing an opinion leader strategy in their individual territories.
Responsible for all Medical Congress Planning within the region.
Develop and provides competitive intelligence across the region identifying key trends that may impact Aegerion?s strategy or execution.
Clearly communicate the national, regional, and territory plans and objectives; define, clarify and manage the regional priorities and actively drive and promote collaboration within the team, across work groups and with customers
Delineate regional KOLs, initiating and developing relationships
Triage and evaluate proposed Investigator Initiated Trials from KOLs against medical strategic map and represent IIT proposals to the internal Scientific Review Committee
Identify potential Clinical Development sites
Work with National Account Managers in medically interfacing with public and private payors for the exchange of medical information at payor meetings
Collaborate within Medical Affairs to appropriately respond to unsolicited requests for medical / scientific information
Represent the US Medical Affairs teams as necessary
Develop and maintain productive and appropriate relationships with individuals in other Aegerion positions from the commercial and Clinical Development organizations
MD, DO, PharmD, MSN or PhD strongly preferred.
Minimum 10 years related experience which includes at least 4 years of industry experience with a minimum of 2 years working in a field-based medical capacity
Demonstrated success in clinical project management
Excellent communication, presentation and time management skills required; must be adaptable and able to work well within a team and relate effectively with people at all levels of the organization
Able to inspire a team to excel by fostering a climate of energy, excitement and personal accountability
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across functions with a high sense of teamwork
Demonstrated leadership in ambiguous situations
Current working knowledge of US legal, regulatory, and compliance regulations and guidelines applicable to the science liaison role
Required: Experience in the Cardiovascular area or Lipid lowering field.
