Senior Research Associate, Strain Development (7MC) Synthetic Genomics

Job Description

At Synthetic Genomics, Inc., we are dedicated to developing and commercializing genomic-driven solutions to address global challenges. We are currently seeking a Scientist in Strain Development to join our fast-growing, dynamic and collaborative team in La Jolla, CA.
Required Skills

With direction from senior leadership, develop and execute innovative experimental research to improve biocatalysts for the production and commercialization of food products.
Develop and optimize methods to transform and select engineered microorganisms.
Interface effectively with members of the Strain Development group as well as contacts in the Discovery, Product Develoment and Process Development Teams to transition leads from discovery through commercialization.
Provide additional support within the Strain Development team as required.
Participate in developing and documenting standard operating procedures.
Generate detailed and complete notebooks; present data-supported conclusions in written and oral reports.
Conduct advanced information analysis; present and convey complex issues across functional areas.
Perform literature reviews and summarize as required.
Consistently demonstrate initiative and follow-through in implementing projects and tasks.

Required Experience

Requires a M.S. degree in Bioengineering, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology or related discipline with 2 yrs experience, or a BS degree with 5 years? experience.
Excellent skills in vector construction and cellular transformation is required.
Excellent general aseptic techniques are required.
Working knowledge and experience with bioinformatics tools is essential.
Experience in the molecular biology or physiology of eukaryotic algae is a plus.
Advanced data analysis and presentation via written & oral format in a concise, clear manner is essential.
