Senior Sales Engineer - West US Starboard Storage
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED A sales engineer with Starboard Storage Systems is vital to the success of our internal processes and to the success of our sales territories. A sales engineer provides feedback to our sales, support and product engineering teams based on first hand observations. As an integral component of the field sales team a sales engineer is responsible for anchoring the business value of our products through technical messaging. They are the control point for insuring that prospective customers are the correct fit for our products. A sales engineer may also be the primary deliverer of the Starboard Storage Systems value proposition from a business technical perspective.
In summary, the sales engineer is more than a technical resource. They are the face of confidence,knowledge, trust and integrity that is the trusted adviser to our partners and our customers.
Senior Sales Engineers are expected to execute their position to the absolute best of their abilities.
Responsibilities for senior sales engineers include but are not necessarily limited to the following.
Be an effective communicator by written and oral methods. Have a high comfort level with Microsoft Word, Excel , Visio and PowerPoint. Be comfortable presenting to small groups. Communicate frequently with your territory manager.
Be envisioned as a subject matter expert for Starboard Storage Systems.
Maintain a presence with your territory partners. Keep them updated with the latest information regarding our products and product features.
Consult with your partners regarding storage, backup methods and infrastructure. Be an adjunct member of their team. Help your partners create a solution sale, not just a product sale. Look for additional opportunities that will increase revenue to all involved in an opportunity.
Attend sales meetings with your territory manager or designee as requested. Follow up with your sales partner after meetings.
Update the company CRM system in a timely manner.
Conduct product demonstrations and on-site proof of concept activities.
BS degree or experience equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years working as a sales engineer in the storage industry.
Knowledge of block and file protocols (CIFS, NFS, iSCSI and Fibre-Channel).
Knowledge of Ethernet and Fibre-Channel infrastructures.
Ability to travel 60% of the time.
Ability to articulate the difference between structured and unstructured data.
Ability to articulate the difference between disk types and workload measurements.
Knowledge of Windows servers and Linux servers. Other OS types a plus.
Hold, have recently held or be in the process of one or more VCP, MCSE, MCP, VTSP.
Be able to lift 60 pounds.
Have a broad view of the storage industry. Be able to converse on at least 3 different manufacturers in the mid-tier space.
Be conversant on multiple backup methods and products.
Be a mentor to other team members.
