Job Description:As a member of our development team you will have the opportunity to drive the next generation of AvaTax Returns built on the Avalara Content Management platform. AvaTax Returns is a highly scalable, content and rules driven engine that aggregates transactional data for Sales Tax returns filing. This position requires communication with Product Management to understand end-user requirements and with Quality Assurance to design and develop automated, end-to-end test capability.
Job Duties:
Implement features with robust, well-documented, test-driven, and maintainable code.
Use version control systems effectively, including an understanding of branching.
Seek and also perform code reviews.
Analyze existing code and designs to maintain and enhance existing software applications.
Debug applications, as needed, utilizing bug and enhancement tracking software and processes.
Manage time effectively.
Estimate and track project effort.
Collaborate with development, QA, and Product Management team members to create best in class solutions.
Experience and Skills:
8+ years experience developing shipping production software (SaaS experience preferred).
3+ years in Python scripting and application development.
1+ years experience developing for RESTful interfaces.
3+ years experience developing applications targeting Linux platform (CentOS/RHEL preferred).
Experience with AWS SDK (S3, EC2, SQS, Dynamo DB) or other distributed storage and processing system is highly preferred.
1+ years experience with git.
Demonstrated attention to detail and quality.
Self-motivated and hard working with the ability to perform at a fast pace with minimal supervision.
Excellent problem solving and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
Must be fluent in written and spoken English.
Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
