Senior Software Engineer - Data Nextdoor

At the heart of Nextdoor lies the ability for neighbors to connect based on their addresses and location. We're looking for analytical and quantitative data engineers to continually improve the quality of our address recognition and matching technologies and to improve the experience of all of our location-enabled applications. Whether building new geocoding technology or creating innovative interfaces for users to claim their residences, this position requires a blend of curiosity and creativity to solve very difficult data quality problems for addresses around the world.Additionally, you will build core infrastructure for analyzing large data sets that will be shared across the company using a mix of cloud-based services and systems. These systems will serve as the foundation for much of the company's data processing and analytics infrastructure.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience required.
-Extremely strong fundamental understanding of data structures and algorithms.
-Strong coding abilities, preferably in multiple languages on UNIX systems (Python, C++ preferred)
-Large-scale distributed data analysis experience using any of SQL, Hadoop/Hive/Pig, MapReduce
- GIS experience a huge plus (e.g. Google Maps API, Shapefiles, KML, geocoding).
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Want to work in San Francisco - we can help you relocate if necessary.
- Strong desire to learn about new technologies and systems.
