Be part of the Guidewire Platform Database team. Serve as an internal expert on diagnosing and fixing database performance and scalability issues. Use your expert knowledge of SQL, profiling and optimization to recommend and implement improvements to our database schema, SQL and usage of database features.

The responsibilities of a Software Engineer on the Database performance team at Guidewire typically include:
- Help the product teams in tuning the applications by reviewing query plans, execution statistics, etc…
- Help with automating database installations for developers and QA
- Help with questions on database configurations and performance tuning
- Identify areas of improvement in instrumentation and tooling and work with the team to improve the tools
- Work with support and professional services in resolving database problems as needed
- Learn new databases and technologies
We care most about your critical thinking skills and technical talent, however prior experience with a majority of the following is desired:
- Excellent track record of supporting database tuning in large-scale enterprise software applications.
- Good understanding of Oracle and/or MS SQL Server
- Should have advanced knowledge in analyzing query plans
- Should have strong experience working with Oracle AWR and/or MSSQL Dynamic Management Views
- Exposure to programming languages like Java
- Should have strong SQL skills
- Experience as Application DBA is desirable
- Experience with object oriented programming will be a plus
- Basic knowledge of PL/SQL and/or T-SQL
