You?ll be coding Knewton?s premier educational application, built on the Knewton Adaptive Learning Platform, that enables teachers and publishers to upload instructional content, build and deliver courses, and provide students everywhere the world?s first out-of-the-box plug-and-play adaptive learning environment. Engineers must have:
A track record of writing high-quality, elegant code
Strong back-end experience in either JVM-based technologies or Python
Ability to write web applications in a full-stack manner (can write the back-end as well as know how to get things to display the way they want in a browser)
Strong ability to work with lots of different teams throughout the technology organization
Ability to grasp complex systems easily and understand the moving parts. You'll be building tools that interact with our entire technology stack.
A strong advocate for making team members' lives easier with software. You'll be working closely with other teams in technology and will need to be able to jump in and make recommendations about changes to our technology to better enable the tools we'll be building.
Not required but highly desired are:
Experience with the Java Virtual Machine (JVM)
Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Unix
Experience with open-source technologies
Experience with big data processing using NoSQL techniques like Cassandra, Hadoop, Hive
