Brightcove's Video Cloud product is the industry leading online video platform for media and marketing. Our customers range from corporate product marketers to large non-profit organizations to major media publishers. We're looking for a developer to work on our video ingestion system.
What the heck is that, you ask?
It's a massively scalable job execution platform tailored to video processing workflows that include things like transcoding, storage, transfer, and distribution. Brightcove processes a massive amount of video daily on behalf of its publishers. This requires a high-volume, low-latency system with parallel video processing running in a hybrid environment both in Brightcove's private datacenter and in the public cloud for elastic scalability.
About the team:
The team you'll be joining is a small, self-organized Agile group focused on solving hard engineering problems. Brightcove is full of truly talented software professionals who love their craft. We use an agile process that ensures the features we build will delight our customers *and* that we're usually home in time for dinner. We are always shipping code -- even several times a day. The team consists of developers who double as experts in operating the systems that they build and take pride in our extremely high uptime stats and our software quality.
About you:
You have experience building large applications in multiple languages. (We mostly use Java, with some Python, Ruby, and Groovy sprinkled in)
You have experience developing and deploying software at high scale.
You understand the basics of scalable SaaS systems: Linux, security, Amazon EC2, HTTP, and SOA.
You understand the principles of software craftsmanship. You write clean code, even when working on extremely hard problems. You unit test everything.
You're familiar with different types of data stores for handling volumes of data. We'd love to talk to you about the tradeoffs between using MongoDB, Cassandra, and Riak.
