Requirements of the Role:
Our growing jewelry manufacturing group is looking to hire a Senior Stone Buyer to help oversee a rapidly expanding selection of semi -precious gemstones, precious gemstones, pearls and diamonds within the context of our no-inventory business model. This individual will oversee a small but growing team of stone buyers and will be responsible for driving the sourcing of stones to ensure that our customers get the highest quality piece just the way they want it. We are looking for just the right individual who has the track record and capability set to achieve the following:
? Help set the strategic vision of Gemvara?s stone buying department (e.g., how should we buy stones, where are there opportunities to hold stone inventory, etc.)
? Use strong analytical skills to identify the biggest opportunity for stone cost savings and execute on these opportunities
? Utilize your network of gemstone and diamond sources to acquire high quality stones under tight deadlines, cost targets, and quality requirements
? Own the stone negotiation process to ensure that our customers are getting the highest quality stones at great prices
? Manage a team of less experienced stone buyers and help the team grow and develop
? Own the process of setting the market price for all of Gemvara?s stone options
? Help define Gemvara?s process for ensuring gemstone quality
? Work with other Gemvara staff to help drive an organizational understanding of gemstones and diamonds
Qualifications and Qualities:
In addition to the above competencies, we are looking for leaders with the following qualifications and qualities:
? 8+ years overseeing stone buying in an online, national or regional jewelry retailer, or Designer/Wholesale Jewelry
? Experience managing other stone buyers in a team setting
? Graduate Gemologist necessary
? Proven analytical skills and comfort using Microsoft Excel to conduct cost analysis and break down large amounts of data
? Extensive experience in vendor/supplier negotiation
? Holds themselves accountable to goals: We measure our team against specific targets and reward people for reaching goals. We are looking for teammates who thrive in these types of environments.
