?Responsible for developing conceptual system designs for proposals/tenders based on technical specifications and commercial requirements to ensure we have economical and technical solutions needed to win projects.
?Perform system design for projects based on technical specifications and commercial contractual requirements to facilitate the completion of projects and provision of service within cost, timescale, technical and quality targets and customer satisfaction.
?Anticipate and notify the Project Manager of any difficulties encountered in the system design that may adversely impact safety, reliability, quality, cost, or schedule of the ABB project deliverables, and provide recommendations for solutions.
?Lead technical discussions with customers related to proposed solutions and design concepts. Play key role in the system design reviews and system design approvals with customer.
?Maintain close contact with customers and project participants to identify and resolve issues of mutual concern and to seek opportunities for additional business. Attend customer meetings as required.
?Perform a leadership role with applicable department contacts to accomplishing the project goals, including performing technical, cost savings, and constructability reviews of design packages from internal engineering, outsourced sub-contractor engineering and equipment factories
?Generate equipment specifications, review sub-supplier documentation and witness factory acceptance testing, as applicable.
?Supervise, plan and actively participate in the Factory Acceptance Test and Site Acceptance Test with customer and/or other units.
?Identify and pursue the resolution of problem areas likely to hinder the progress of work or payment of work completed to optimize the successful completion of and payment for project work.
?Evaluate conceptual designs based upon commercial requirements balancing the design complexity with required functionality and cost?Adhere to the company's ? Grid Systems quality processes and document control procedures to ensure design documents are complete and accurate.
?Plan, conduct, coordinate and develop recommendations regarding varied analytical studies such as application of advanced engineering concepts and processes. Analyze engineering and business aspects of proposed programs, develop proposals and coordinate associated activities.Serve as technical consultant, advisor and spokesperson for the organization on highly significant matters and exert considerable influence regarding focus and direction of engineering activities. Negotiate with customers, matters of considerable significance that may impact current and future business, and assist them to optimize their operations by such means as improving their costs, quality and processes. Design and develop highly complex models or simulations of systems and conduct independent engineering studies encompassing sophisticated analytical techniques, novel and unconventional approaches. Analyze new proposals, requirements, specifications and products. Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art technology, anticipate market trends and customer requirements, and propose responsive actions.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor?s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
Masters of Science degree in power electronics/power systems strongly preferred; Commensurate experience in lieu or advanced degree will be considered.
Minimum of 8 to 12 years relevant experience in electrical power systems; however, candidates with additional experience will be considered.
Experience from FACTS or HVDC or other grid applications of power electronics is a plus.

My client, seeks a System Design Engineer who will be responsible for system design associated with Flexible AC Transmission systems (FACTS) and HVDC stations. The ideal candidate will hold an engineering degree and advanced technical experience to perform necessary responsibilities and to contribute to the successful execution of Power Systems Grid Systems (PSG) tenders and projects, customer satisfaction, cost forecasting and control, scheduling, quality and performance. This role will also have the opportunity to conduct complex systems analysis and function as a technical consultant to customers in the exploration and presentation of solutions to the market.
