Position Description: This position is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Senior System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures which adhere to organizational values and architectural principles. The Senior System Administrator will assist project teams with technical issues in the production environment and will also be responsible for testing and rolling-out the solutions. Participation on project is focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development staff to production staff by performing operations activities within the project lifecycle.
This position has accountability for systems including: Linux and Windows systems that support SaaS infrastructure. Responsibilities on these systems include: SA engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research, and development to ensure continual innovation.
Requirements:
BS in a technical field such as Computer Science, Information Services or related field, or commensurate experience and 5 or more years of related applications support and systems administration experience in large computing environments
MCSE certification and certification Linux administration (LPIC2)
Excellent knowledge of hardware and software installation, testing, and operations
Proficient scripting skills such as shell, VBscript, perl, etc., to facilitate systems administration automation, highly desirable knowledge of applications for computer software for automating highly diverse agency/organization activities
Knowledge of the principles of data communication and telecommunications, micro/mini/mainframe computer operating systems, network concepts, and teleprocessing and telecommunication architecture
Understanding of application interfaces and communication in complex ecosystems
Maintain the firm standards as they apply to the information, data network, and system security
Responsible for observing all laws and regulations wherever business is conducted on behalf of the company
Responsibilities:
Engineering and Provisioning:
Engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs
Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
Develop and maintain installation and configurations procedures
Contribute to and maintain system standards
Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks
Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
Operations and Support:
Perform daily backup to the appropriate media, create recovery tapes and/or discs
Recycle media and send off site, as necessary
Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary
Create, change, and delete user accounts per request
Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues
Repair and recover from hardware or software failures
Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies
Maintenance:
Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tolls and utilities; configure/add new services as necessary
Harden operating systems to provide a secure computing environment
Upgrade and configure system software that supports SaaS infrastructure applications
Maintain operational, and/or configurations, or other procedures
Perform periodic performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required
Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required
Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment
Preferences:
Understanding of contact center related applications and network components
Exposure to the requirement to run and support computer networks
Ability to train junior systems administrators
