Senior Systems Engineer Avail-TVN

Job Summary

The Systems Engineer will work in partnership with team lead to ensure team and overall success. He/she will participate in the design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing and modification of computer systems and programs based on and related to system design specifications at Avail-TVN. He/she is expected to be highly skilled and proficient in the theoretical and practical application of specialized knowledge related to computer systems, analysis, infrastructure, and system engineering while working independently and without close supervision.

Major Activities To Ensure Achievement of Key Results and Deliverables

Define, design, and implement solutions for high-performance systems using data processing applications, home grown tools, Unix tools, and other emerging technologies
Propose infrastructure changes needed to support and ever growing software base
Develop prototypes rapidly for evaluation and validation purposes
Document code and system designs
Provide application support and systems maintenance
Perform research and analysis on needs and possibilities
Provide technical mentor-ship and be an example to other members of the engineering team

Addional Responsibilities

Planning and coordinating complex projects across engineering, IT, and operations
Identify sound technical solutions to meet the requirements of the business
Translating business needs into technical requirements and solutions
Evaluating impact of new requirements to existing systems
Requirements change management
Partnering with Systems Architects, Project Managers, Developers and management to provide timely execution and support for business systems, planning, implementation and increased system uptimes

Your Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Required

3-5 years' experience of programming/scripting experience in the production of high quality, high performance, and highly available software
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities
Ability to learn new skills quickly with minimal guidance
Dedicated to achieving project schedules and milestones
Knowledge of Linux/BSD variants
Server hardware and technologies (IBM/HP/SuperMicro)
Experience with SAN/NAS Technology, Design and Implementation and RAID levels
Experience in heterogeneous environments (Windows/Mac) with single sign on / policy administration (LDAP/RADIUS/KEREBROS, etc.)
Working knowledge of Internet Protocols: SMTP, POP3, IMAP, FTP, SSH, DNS, HTTP, HTTPS
Basic understanding of VPN technologies and terminology
Experience with mass systems deployment using Kickstart/PXE boot
Statistics collection/metering - SNMP, Nagios
Proficient in Linux command line (non-GUI) administration
Linux system security administration and enforcement
Experience with virtualization management technologies (VMWare, Xen)
Ability to work in a team environment with aggressive deadlines and multiple priorities while staying a team player
Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills
Strong attention to detail

Desired

Knowledge of other popular Internet programming languages and open source frameworks
Shell Scripting using bash or equivalent
Systems scripting using PHP, Python, Perl, Ruby or equivalent
Experience with the following software: Apache HTTPD, PHP, HAProxy, VMware ESX/vSphere Server
Experience building, supporting, and scaling distributed systems and architectures on a large scale
Strong experience with Linux/Unix
Experience in video post-production, Metadata Creation, integration and system design
Experience with tools such as Signiant, iMake, and Anystream is a plus
Video analysis experience using tools such as Sencore or Tektronix
