Senior Systems Engineer Venda
Role
The Senior Systems Engineer will play a key role in a skilled technical team, the base of which is located in the UK. This global technical team oversees hundreds of servers in multiple data centers worldwide, and is critical for the successful implementation and ongoing improvement of our customers' eCommerce sites. The primary objective of this role is to extend and enhance the Venda platform by administration, configuration and system-level application support, network and server monitoring and performance tuning.
This position will be based at Venda's US headquarters in midtown Manhattan. The responsibilities of the role will require periodic travel to customer sites, conferences, and other Venda facilities in the US, UK and Thailand, as well as to additional destinations the Company may designate from time to time.
Initial training period may include 2-3 months working from the Venda UK office in London.
Responsibilities
leadership in key projects such as data center architecture, capacity planning, upgrades and migrations.
working closely with our Systems, Help Desk and eBusiness Strategy teams throughout the Company to support customers by solving technical issues as they arise;
providing application and platform support, including configuration management, operational changes and deploying new web sites delivered by the development teams;
managing and supporting production systems and networks to high levels of availability, performance and security;
participating in both a 24-7 on-call rotation and evening shift rotation from 12PM 9PM Eastern time;
enhancing established processes to ensure consistent and quality work; and
pro-actively improving the service supplied to Vendas Customers.
Essential Technical SkillsEssential Technical Skills
UNIX Administration (Linux/Redhat/CentOS preferred) in an online environment.
Broad administration of services such as Apache (ideally with modperl), DNS, software version control (Subversion, CVS, GIT).
Systems programming (Shell and ideally Perl).
Experience building open source package sets suitable for reproducible installation.
Experience supporting environments with large (>100) number of servers, Web Load balancer Management (Zeus preferred).
Familiarity with NetApp filter administration or similar.
Knowledge of networking, firewalls, routers/switches (Cisco preferred).
Knowledge of security standards (PCIDSS preferred).
Skills RequiredSkills Required
Educated to degree level, preferably Computer Science degree or equivalent.
Must be comfortable working on projects in a team environment with remote teams across different time zones and cultures.
Results driven, self motivated, positive can-do attitude.
Attention to detail, working to procedures, taking responsibility for output.
Ability to work and adapt in a fast-paced environment, maintaining quality at all times.
Ability to document and/or automate common tasks.
An excellent and clear communicator, providing reports to line management as required.
Experience in the eCommerce industry preferred.
