Position
The Senior Network and Systems Engineers role is to manage and tune in-house network and computer systems. S/he needs to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house and hosted IT systems. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software, hardware, and associated operating systems. Our ideal candidate will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. The person will also analyze and resolve end user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.
Responsibilities
As Senior Network and Systems Engineer, this person will be a key member of AtHoc IT team and will be responsible for various aspect of AtHoc infrastructure including but not limited to:
Oversees the day-to-day operation of computer networks including hardware/software support and training
Install, configure and maintain network elements, computer systems and other related equipment
Monitor and manage network hardware, software and equipment including routers, switches, hubs, load balancers, UPS, etc.
Manage security solutions including firewalls, anti-virus and intrusion protection systems
Performs scheduled network tasks, updating anti-virus definition files, monitoring network servers, and providing internet and intranet user support, and training
Plans, designs and implements data connectivity for local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) systems
Design, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures for network and system security, and server room physical and environmental controls
Establish and perform maintenance programs as per company and vendor standards
Provide network and remote connectivity hardware/software support
Provide on-call support to company staff and customers, as needed
Back up and disaster recovery planning and readiness
Analyzes and troubleshoots the network logs and tracks the nature and resolution of problems
Maintains LAN user documentation including hardware/software applications, support logs and other related information
Researches and recommends network and server hardware and software
Assists in coordinating projects including network related wiring plans, LAN/WAN hardware/software purchases, and system installation, backup, maintenance and problem solving
Monitors usage to ensure security of data and access privileges; installs, supports and maintains both physical and virtual network servers and appliances
Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots the Storage Area Network (SAN)
Establishes and maintains user accounts, profiles, file sharing, access privileges and security; performs daily server tape backups
Researches, analyzes, monitors, troubleshoots and resolves server or data network problems
Develops, maintains and implements network support, and archiving procedures
Assists in planning, coordinating and consulting with vendors and clients for hardware/software purchases, product services and support; recommends and specifies the purchase of related products and services
Builds and follows asset management practices
Keeps current regarding new hardware/software products for system enhancements
Requirements
7+ years of hands-on technical experience on various network elements including Cisco switches, routers, ASA, Load balancers, Firewalls, VPNs, etc.
Experience with administering and maintaining Active Directory and MS DNS
In-depth technical knowledge of network, PC, and platform operating systems, including Windows Server 2003 and 2008 and Microsoft Exchange 2003/7/10
Experience with network and system monitoring tools
Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including SIP trunks, IP Telephony, etc.
Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience
Working knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN or NAS
Experience with IIS versions 6 & 7 & Certificate management
Experience with VMware and Hyper-V
Experience with backup softwares like Backup Exec and Veeam
Experience with Microsoft Lync is a plus
Experience with Cisco UCM is a plus
Cisco CCNA or equivalent network administration certification is preferred
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other IT related areas
Willingness to travel on work assignments, on a need-basis
Strong written, presentation and oral communication skills and ability to explain issues/resolution concepts in technical and non-technical terms to customers and company staff
Education
BS in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience
