Senior Technical Editor (San Francisco)
We are looking for a brilliant (but humble), experienced technical editor to join the Splunk docs team. You will assist writers during the development of customer-facing documentation for multiple products, doing direct editing (both developmental and copy editing), rewriting, and giving guidance on content development and organization. You will be responsible for owning and enhancing a style guide used within the docs team and across the company. You will collaborate with technical writers, engineers, support engineers, product managers, and course developers to ensure high-quality, relevant, and accurate content. You must thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment where a sharp sense of humor is basic currency. We maintain our documentation in a custom MediaWiki instance live on the web, and continuously update it with improvements and new features.
Responsibilities: I can do that!
* Edit Splunk product documentation for clarity, consistency, organization, and effectiveness
* Provide constructive feedback and guide the work of authors to improve their writing skills
* Participate in all phases of content development, from planning to release to maintenance
* Cultivate a holistic view of the Splunk documentation set and provide innovative suggestions for improving the user experience with our content and our products
Requirements: I have that!
* 8+ years of relevant experience working for an enterprise software company in technical editing, product documentation, or technical marketing
* Exceptional copy editing and developmental editing skills, including a passion for terminology and an eye for missing details
* Experience with writing for the web and working with Wiki markup and HTML
* Ability to write in a range of styles and tones, from highly technical to conversational
* Proven teamwork skills and flexibility
* Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
BA/BS degree in Technical Writing, Technical Editing, Journalism, or English, or relevant professional experience.
