Senior Underwriter International Catastrophe Insurance
The Underwriter III (Senior Underwriter) is a production underwriter which generally services accounts with total insured values up to $250M in values. The Underwriter III will be responsible for relationship management for assigned producers.
Production and Underwriting
The Underwriter III has responsibility for new and renewal premium in the region on assigned producers and/or accounts. The Underwriter III is responsible for underwriting and pricing accounts in accordance with ICAT?s underwriting standards, personal underwriting authority level, and ICAT?s General Agency Agreements (GAA).
The Underwriter III is responsible for several producers and/or accounts and is the primary point of contact for that producer and his/or her agency personnel.
The Underwriter III is responsible for monitoring production, hit ratios, renewal retention ratios spread of risk, and other production and quality measures.
Possesses a working knowledge of all of ICAT?s products and is able to perform website training.
Gathers market data for new markets, products, and or segments and works with the team to identify new production opportunities and track competitor activity.
Gathers and reports information through visit reports, team briefings and market updates for the underwriting personnel.
Provides informal and formal underwriting training as required.
Mentors less experienced underwriting personnel on market conditions, competitors, relationship management, etc.
Meets all file documentation standards, complies with underwriting and authority level standards, and passes all audits (both internal and external).
Responsible for conducting regular and periodic underwriting self-review.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of ICAT?s forms and endorsements, including various manuscript forms required on more complex accounts, the requirements of the GAA, ICAT?s rating methodology and ICAT?s reinsurance contracts.
Works with the team to establish regional production budgets and assist in agency development.
Works with the team to manage regional underwriting results including regional modeled results, spread of risk initiatives, and concentration of risk controls.
Develop and manage projects. Responsible for defining project scope, resources and achieving deliverables on time and within budget.
Other duties as assigned.
Works under the direct supervision of the Vice President, Commercial Underwriting and provides indirect supervision of non-exempt and exempt personnel.

5 or more years of progressive underwriting experience within the commercial property insurance industry.
5 or more years of progressive underwriting, sales and/or agency management experience within the insurance industry.
Proven underwriting, sales and agency management skills:
- Oral and written communication including formal and informal presentation skills.
- Ability to underwrite large more complex accounts, including knowledge of commercial property forms, pricing and rating methodology, modeling and valuation tools.
- Ability to manage agency relationships and production.
- Effective negotiation.
- Ability to gather, report and act on appropriate market information and trends.
BA degree in insurance, business or related field preferred.
Licenses or Designations
INS Certification or CPCU Certification preferred.
Strong mathematical and analytical aptitude.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.
Intermediate skills in underwriting and policy processing software applications.
Intermediate skills in the use of the World Wide Web for information retrieval and on-line business processing.
Physical Work Demands
Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach on a daily basis.
Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, delivering and using the telephone.
Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Must have valid driver?s license and personal vehicle for work use.
Mental Work Demands
Regular and on-time attendance.
Hours regularly exceed 40 hours per week.
Regular travel by conventional means including aircraft, motor vehicle and the like within the region and to other locations as required.
