Redfin's mission is to change the real estate game in the consumer's favor. We've built a
bleeding-edge real estate search site with hordes of rabid fans and an iPhone app that was
featured in Apple's TV ad campaign. Our real estate team guides buyers and sellers through
complex real estate transactions - we're trying to do it better, faster, and more efficiently,
advocating for the customer at every step of the way.
Redfin is seeking a highly motivated, agile, and experienced Senior Unix Admin/Linux
Systems Administrator to maintain our production and test environments. We are looking
for a highly competent and highly motivated individual in this production role.
Responsibilities: You will be responsible for keeping one of the largest real estate web sites in the world running smoothly. You will spend the majority of your time spent tearing down and creating virtual machines in Amazon Web Services, tuning our physical Linux servers, automating everything you can, and creating services and tools to streamline our operations. As an expert on production operations, you will also work frequently with software engineers to ensure that our production code and systems are continually optimized.
Required Skills:
Minimum of 5 years' full-time experience as a Linux or Unix systems admin
Ability to write automation scripts in at least one shell dialect with basic knowledge of a higher-level scripting language (e.g. python, ruby, or perl)
Deep understanding of Linux operation and internals
Ability to analyze log files and correlate with system events
Experience with SQL databases and ability to compose basic queries
Experience monitoring systems for uptime and performance
Ability to write clear documentation and convey complex ideas both verbally and in written form
Ability to serve in on-call, after-hours support rotation
Self-direction, perseverance, and fast learning; calm demeanor and positive attitude
