Job Summary
The Senior Video Engineer will work in partnership with the team lead to ensure the team and overall success. He/she will participate in the design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing and modification of Video on Demand workflows based on and related to design specifications at Avail-TVN. He/she is expected to be highly skilled and proficient in the theoretical and practical application of specialized knowledge related to video formats, acquisition, analysis, encoding/transcoding, delivery, and system engineering while working independently and without close supervision.
Major Activities To Ensure Achievement of Key Results and Deliverables
Define, design, and implement solutions to support Video On Demand processes and practices
Interface with content providers, affiliates, and vendors
Develop prototype workflows rapidly for evaluation and validation to meet business needs
Document systems, processes, and workflows
Provide support and systems maintenance to internal systems
Perform research and analysis on upcoming specs, new platforms and new encoding methods
Provide technical mentor-ship and be an example to other members of the engineering team by being responsible for developing workflows and training the encoding team
Additional Responsibilities
Planning and coordinating complex projects across engineering, IT, and operations
Identify sound technical solutions to meet the requirements of the business
Translate business needs into technical requirements and solutions by determining the input/output video formats and developing a prototype workflow to support new business Evaluate impact of new requirements to existing encoding systems
Implement automated methods to increase workflow productivity
Your Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Required
Bachelor degree preferred or equivalent work experience
5+ years' experience in Video Encoding
Experience with Broadcast and Digital Video standards
Experience with Pro Video equipment including VTR, patch bays, scopes
Video codecs including (but not limited to) MPEG-2, AVC, DV, VC-1, ProRes, JPEG2000
Audio codecs including (but not limited to) PCM, AC3, AAC, 302M, MP2/MP3
Container formats including (but not limited to) MPEG-TS, MPEG-PS, MPEG-4, QuickTime, MXF
Experience with Perl Scripting
Closed captioning standards (SCTE-20, CEA-608, CEA-708) and manipulation using captioning files
MPEG quality and verification systems such as Sencore, Manzanita, and Baton
Encoding/transcoding systems such as Rhozet Carbon Coder, Digital Rapids StreamZ, Flip Factory
Familiarity with freeware/open-source multimedia tools such as mplayer, ffmpeg, x264, mp4box, and AviSynth
Experience with Linux and Windows/Mac environments
Ability to learn new skills quickly with minimal guidance
Dedicated to achieving project schedules and milestones
Desired
Knowledge of CableLabs VOD Content Encoding Profiles
Experience in video post-production, Metadata Creation, integration and system design
Experience with tools such as Signiant and Anystream is a plus
Knowledge of other popular Internet programming languages and open source frameworks
Shell Scripting using bash or equivalent
