Key Position Accountabilities:
Use expert knowledge and experience to review existing CAD drawings and prototype components. Make fact-based recommendations on base material selection, forming methods, welding and joining techniques, and environmental protection. Use expertise to make data-driven trade-off recommendations between performance and cost.
Direct experience and expertise with:
-Sheet metal fabrication and tooling: roll-forming, stamping, shearing, punching, bending
-Resistance welding techniques: seam welding, spot welding, projection welding
-Understanding of weld equipment selection and capabilities
-Weld jigging, tooling, and fixturing
-Chemical and environmental compatibility of base materials and the welding process, along with galvanic protection and coatings. Knowledge of material behavior of pre-galv, hot dip galv, and powder coated products.
-Experience in high volume production of sheet metal assemblies (> 100,000 annual volume).
-We are not seeking someone to physically perform welding, although that capability is considered a plus.
-Ability to review, understand, and mark up Engineering drawings. Ability to specify welds on Engineering drawings.
-Use knowledge of material behavior and metallurgy to suggest base material alternatives, knowing how it might react to subsequent forming, welding, joining and coating methods. Recommend trade-offs between performance and cost.
-Use of experience and expertise to recommend fabrication methods and tooling in terms of trade-offs between performance and cost.
-Use of experience and expertise to recommend welding processes, jigging and fixturing, and welding equipment in terms of trade-offs between performance and cost.
-Recommend the above, being able to explain how it will scale to production volumes of >100,000 annually.
