Autodesk's Consumer Group is looking for a shop manager to help us build and maintain our new shop opening at Pier 9. There are two phases to the position. Phase 1 includes shop install and setup. Phase 2 includes day-to-day shop operations and management.
Phase 1 setup responsibilities include:
manage temporary labor force of 2-4 workers to setup, stock and commission the shop
receive and inventory equipment deliveries
purchase and coordinate delivery of tools and materials
develop and fabricate custom storage and workflow solutions
Phase 2 operational responsibilities include:
receiving, material inventory, reorder and supply
tool repairs and maintenance
program budgeting
coordinate staff trainings with on-site health and safety administrator
help users solve a wide variety of problems from project consultation to tooling questions
oversee shop work and enforce best safety practices across a wide range of tools and users
maintain and enforce shop access list
lead tours of workspace for visitors
Candidates should:
have a passion for making things, experience working in CNC, prototyping, metal, wood, or machine shops is preferred
have experience servicing and maintaining shop equipment
be able to manage and facilitate projects with an enthusiastic and passionate group of builders ranging from novice to expert
drive a forklift (we can train)
possess excellent communication skills over email and phone
be friendly and enjoy working with a diverse group of people from different backgrounds
be flexible to meet new challenges and directions as responsibilities may grow and shift
bridge the gap between raw creativity and the day to day facilities operations that are required to run a multi-user world class shop
Experience in complex design and fabrication tools like CAD, 3d printing, laser cutting, CNC machinery and other advanced prototyping processes are encouraged. However, experience in all of these fields is not required. The role we are looking to fill is largely managerial, and while familiarity with the processes mentioned above is valuable, those skills can be learned. Instead, we are looking for a candidate who desires to be in a cutting-edge creative environment with some of the finest makers, engineers, electronics experts, chefs, software developers, designers and educators in our community.
