Tantalus has an immediate opening for a talented and experienced Smart Grid Application Marketing Engineer based in Raleigh, NC or near a major airport in the Central or Eastern U.S. time zones.

The Smart Grid Application Marketing Engineer primarily provides technical marketing pre-sales support via demonstrations, utility AMI/smart grid communications system design, and smart grid solution design for electric and water utility customers. This position reports to the Chief Marketing Officer and works closely with other Marketing Application Engineers, Sales, Product Management, Customer Operations, and Marketing personnel to position Tantalus? products to customers early in the pursuit process, understand the technical challenges and obstacles facing the deploying utility, and position Tantalus for success in the team selling environment. These engineers support all trade shows, product demonstrations, and marketing events. Post-sale, these engineers work with Customer Operations to ensure that customer solutions are implemented as designed to customer specifications. Marketing engineers are responsible for contributing significantly to the development of all proposals and customer bids. They are also a major resource for gathering and understanding competitive capabilities and provide input on a regular basis to Product Management. This position will also serve as the backup Systems/RF design engineer for computerized communication designs.
The Smart Grid Application Marketing Engineer will work with individual sales account executives throughout the pursuit process. Skills that are necessary to succeed are:
Ability to lead customer discussions to develop joint detailed architectural communication/AMI system designs
Understanding and reviewing functional aspects of proposed Tantalus-Client Smart Grid Networks
Preparing and delivering presentations and Tantalus TUNet system demonstrations that address specific utility operational use cases and AMI needs
Written communication ability to support technical responses for Request for Proposals (RFPs) or Request for Information (RFI).
Ability to coordinate and work with multiple inter organizational departments particularly Sales and Customer Operations/Field Services
Energy/Utility industry and applications knowledge
Smart grid/AMI competitive analysis and differentiation
Knowledge of RF wireless system design
You will interface with our customers, intent on ensuring that Tantalus meets or exceeds expectations. You may be required to travel as much as one to three weeks per month on average. You will be a key in ensuring solutions are designed to their needs and that Customer Operations understands how to implement those solutions. You may also be called upon to undertake duties outside those of your principle role as stated above if needed.
B.S or M.S in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering/Information Technology, Telecommunications or related major
Minimum 7 years work experience with direct interaction with customers
Minimum 7 years work experience in utility-sized communications network implementations
Experience in a technical pre-sales engineering or technical support role
Experience in communications networking configuration and functionality and /or Smart Grid products / solutions
Design expertise to integrate Smart Grid in control centers and branch networks to support key customer objectives for Smart Grid deployment and must consider best-practices.
Must have worked with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Field Services, Product Development and Documentation groups to add or correct documentation; publish tech-tips and best practices and drive product and process improvement initiatives based on lessons learned from support cases.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including MS-Project
Must have experience in designing and delivering customer presentations and customer consultation
