Purpose
Function as a top level technical expert in one or more highly specialized areas of IT engineering. Act independently under general direction. Provides technical leadership on complex projects. May act as expert in business or functional area. Formulates and defines system scope and objectives. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time and form of desired results. Prepares detailed specifications from which programs will be written. Responsible for system design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation. Has full technical knowledge of all phases of system development. May be responsible for multiple phases of a project. May have duties instructing, directing, and checking the work of other system engineering personnel. May have quality assurance review responsibilities.
Primary Responsibilities:
Sets technical direction and standard development best practices for the company's core product (the Outcome System? Platform) software development team
Owns the development architecture plan, timelines, and deliverables associated with all software releases
Researches, designs, and reviews software to ensure they are to appropriate specifications
Works closely with Product Management, Software Quality Assurance, Project Management and Application Development functions in the planning and execution of software releases
Generates technical documentation and communicates architectural and design options, and educates development teams on new Outcome System? Platform capabilities
Collects and reports on development metrics to provide transparency on project status and identify opportunities for improvement
Continually solicits feedback and input on areas requiring optimization or refactoring
Directs and mentors developers in industry best practices, procedures, and concepts
Qualifications
B.S. in Computer Science or related major desired, M.S. preferred
10+ years experience in the complete software development lifecycle
10+ years experience in J2EE, Linux, web application development, SaaS, high availability, multi-tenant environment
5+ years experience with Oracle database
TIBCO Spotfire experience preferred
Recognized leader in building and developing teams
Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
Experience working with pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device companies and an understanding of FDA 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, and ISO 9000 or CMM is preferred but not required
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's Degree in computer science or related field with a minimum 9 years relevant work experience; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
