Job Description
To support our rapid growth, we are seeking talented, motivated engineers to join our office in Chicago. You must bring a passion for programming and developing innovative solutions. As a software architect, you will have the opportunity to work with a powerful web application using some of the latest technologies with a brilliant, talented bunch of developers solving complex problems. You will work closely with BigMachines? development team to build and deploy our solution using Java/JSPs/Servlets/JDBC/AJAX/Web Services/Spring and a host of other cutting edge enterprise strength technologies. We are looking for highly motivated individuals who can learn quickly, grow with the company, and look forward to the challenge of delighting our customers and building our business.

Duties
Understanding the J2EE product space and all Java standards
Performing gap analysis of current architecture and implementations against strategic roadmaps and security related developments
Leading high level designs and prototyping initiatives for web and mobile platforms (knowledgeable of design and diagramming standards for different domains)
Assessing infrastructure for high availability with provisioning support through license management
Assessing and improving on current architectures, especially in scaling and performance.
Ensuring all development practices are in compliance
Helping management establish and enforce team best practices, policies and procedures
Performing code reviews and mentoring/ leading junior engineers
Staying updated of new technologies and of changes in technologies that affect web development
Adhering to all BigMachines security policies, standards and procedures in the performance of job duties
Participating in security training provided by BigMachines
Reporting any potential security weakness, exposure or suspicious indications to manager
Skills/Requirements
Strong problem solving, reasoning, and analytical skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Leadership experience desirable.
5+ years? experience in large software development environments, deploying and maintaining Linux based applications
Expert knowledge in various web server technologies, including Apache and Tomcat.
Strong knowledge in high level protocols, including XML, SOAP, JSON, REST, SSO. SAML is desirable.
Knowledgeable about Agile Methodologies and ALM tools like TFS and Maven.
Knowledgeable about cloud and virtualization technologies. VMWare is desirable.
Ability to work constructively with developers, QA, Project managers, and Management towards a common goal
High motivation and desire to do whatever it takes to help the customer and our company succeed
A minimum of a Bachelor?s degree in Computer Engineering / related software engineering discipline (or equivalent) with 5 years of work experience OR a Master?s degree in Computer Engineering / related software engineering discipline with 4 years of work experience.
Experience with Java / J2EE technologies is a must
Experience with Database technologies is a must, Oracle experience is highly desirable
Experience with Spring, Hibernate, JavaScript and MVC architecture is highly desirable
