We're seeking talented engineers to join our Core Services team. You'll be expected to build stable, robust systems to support a diverse and rapidly evolving feature set. The Core Services team at Yammer builds backend services to offload components that require maximum scalability, low latency and high availability from the primary front end application. The team works on few public-facing services. Instead we focus on critical backend components like messaging, search, activities and realtime notifications. We discuss topics like eventual consistency, leader election, automatic failover, end-to-end latency and inverted indices.

Responsibilities:
o Help build and maintain Yammer?s backend services.
o Integrate our Rails app with these services.
o Identify scaling bottlenecks and propose solutions.
o Contribute to open-source distributed data stores.
o Research, test, benchmark and evaluate new technology.
o Solve the types of mysteries which only occur at high scale.
Qualifications:
o Ability to adapt.
o An ideal candidate will have a knack for solving a broad range of problems using a wide array of technologies.
o Have experience building and operating scalable, distributed systems. We serve more than 4 million users (and growing?rapidly) with no patience for slow, flaky services when it comes to the tools they need to do their job.
o Have experience in developing REST-based web services. Sound API design and knowledge of HTTP principles is vital to providing robust, easily consumed services for the rest of the company.

Candidates must be able to meet customer security screening requirements as indicated for this role. Customer screening requirements may include additional items such as, but not limited to: specialized agency background checks (either national or local) and fingerprinting. All employees hired into roles supporting Cloud Offerings will also be required to pass Microsoft background checks prior to the start of employment and every two years thereafter.
