Software Development Manager [ref: SwUSDevMgr] Solarflare Communications
Solarflare are looking for an exceptionally capable software engineer who can grow a new development and support team based out of our Irvine office. Solarflare's software team is currently centred out of our Cambridge office in the UK and this role is the first in creating a new software group in the US. This role will report directly into the Vice President Software who works out of Solarflare's UK office. As such the role would involve some travel to the UK and other locations ? ideally the successful candidate would be available to spend a number of weeks in the UK when joining Solarflare.
This a very hands on role suitable for candidates who are looking for a senior role but one where they will still spend the majority of time actually developing software. We are looking for a very high calibre software engineers to work on the design and implementation of Solarflare's OpenOnload application middleware. OpenOnload is a kernel bypass network solution providing an accelerated TCP/IP network stack which is dynamically linked into an application's address space and granted direct access to accelerated network hardware.
As a technical lead the successful candidate will be responsible for the technical direction, help mentor more junior developers and ensure consistency and quality in the code base. This is a senior and highly technical role and the successful candidate you will have proven successful track record of producing high quality software, ideally for silicon or networking company.
The role also involves a high amount of customer contact; including pre-sales, post-sales support and consultancy to our tier1 financial (Wall Street) customer base. Long term, the new team will also provide 1st to 3rd level line technical support cover for the network adapter product range outside of UK office hours.
To be successful you will have the ability to quickly understand a complex hardware and software architecture. You will have worked extensively at the hardware / software interface involving networking in some capacity, programming in C ideally on Linux kernel components.
We are looking for engineers with a very strong academic background in a numerical subject (e.g. maths, physics, computer science) or of similar calibre.
Responsibilities:
PhD, first class or 2:1 from well ranked university.
7+ years software experience (or equivalent) ideally working at silicon or networking companies.
Proven commercial experience developing in C
Evidence of technical leadership in the successful delivery of complex and challenging software products.
Strong knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP and the sockets interface
Linux kernel and device drivers
Strong communication skills and desire to work closely with customers
