Software Engineer-Avalara Certs Avalara
Job Description:
The Software Engineer is responsible for the enhancement and support of the customer-facing Software as a Service (SaaS) application that is the foundation for the Avalara Exemption Certificate product. The successful candidate will participate in the development of this application, become versed in the features of the product and work with the Certs development team to build a high quality product. This position requires communication with Product Management to understand end-user requirements and with Quality Assurance to design and develop automated, end-to-end test capability.
Job Duties:
Implement high quality, scalable features for the Certs Application.
Research, identify and utilize appropriate tools, libraries, frameworks, and languages to solve problems and deliver results using the most effective methods.
Document functionality of software, including public APIs.
Write and maintain appropriate unit and integration test suites.
Participate in project estimation and scoping exercises.
Work independently as a collaborative member of a team.
Work effectively to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
Keep abreast of new technologies and apply appropriately to business problems.
Experience and Skills:
Bachelors degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent and 3-5 years of experience in same areas.
Proven working knowledge of the LAPP (Linux Apache Postgres PHP) architecture.
Proven experience in PHP and web application development.
Solid understanding of web protocols, markup languages, and scripting languages including but not limited to: HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, Web-Services (using SOAP and REST).
Good knowledge of relational databases, specifically Postgres.
A basic understanding of AWS or similar cloud based infrastructure
A basic understanding of agile development specifically the SCRUM framework
Strong analytical skills and knowledge of Object Oriented Programming
Solid debugging capabilities
Ability to multi task, to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and to perform under stress to deliver on committed timelines with a keen focus on driving high quality results
Strong problem solving and analytical skills demonstrated by the ability to assimilate new information, understand complex topics and arrive at sound analysis and judgment
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Excellent problem solving skills, must be able to think "outside the box"
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
Self-motivated, passionate, and hard working with the ability to perform at a fast pace with minimal supervision
