The Department
Propulsion (Engines) â€" Our Propulsion group brings together some of the brightest minds in the engine business. We currently build more rocket engines than any other organization in the country, furthermore the design and performance parameters of SpaceX engines are notably recognized throughout the industry. Our team built the first human rated engines to see spaceflight since the Space Shuttles Main Engines were built over 30 years ago.
The Job
Software Engineer (Combustion Modeling)
Responsibilities
- This job is for a diehard developer who wants to enable stunning calculations and visualizations with bleeding-edge hardware and algorithms
- The candidate will work with Propulsion Engineers to develop advanced simulation tools used for engine design
- Extend and improve interoperability among existing tools
- Design and perform validation tests of simulations against experimental data
- Seek out, evaluate, and implement state-of-the-art algorithms on multi-core and GPU hardware
Requirements
- BS or MS in Computer Science or related field of study
- Excellent C++ skills (> 2 years of applied experience)
- Expert-level knowledge of developing distributed/networked applications (threading, MPI, CUDA)
- Strong skills with debuggers, profilers, and unit testing
- Experience working in a team on at least one large (>100,000 lines) software project
Preferred skills
- A background in scientific computing, high-performance computing, or mathematics is a big plus
- Basic understanding of fluid mechanics
- Interest in/competence with multiple languages and technologies (Java, C#, Scala, SQL)
- Cross-platform development and related tools (Visual Studio, GNU Make)
- Experience in one or more 3D rendering APIs (e.g. OpenGL or Direct3D), or libraries (VTK, VisIt, ParaView)
- Familiar with Agile software development techniques, particularly Test-Driven Development, and Continuous Integration
