Position Summary
At Merced Systems, we develop software that continuously collects data from disparate sources, correlates it, analyzes it and provides everybody in an organization?front-line workers to senior executives?personalized reports relevant to the roles. Together with tools to respond to the data, our customers can initiate and sustain activity that improves job performance.
Merced Systems software is in use at many blue chip enterprises. If you have a mobile phone, cable or satellite TV, credit card, bank account, insurance policy or brokerage account you probably have talked with daily users of our software.
The hands-on position will play a key role in defining, designing and developing our new Big Data Analytics platform. The candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to define, design and develop the next generation platform in an Agile development environment. The candidate will be an individual contributor and report to the Director of Engineering.
Primary Responsibilities
Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to clearly understand business objectives, customer needs, and product requirements
Translate requirements to technical solutions
Design and develop new features and enhancements on our Big Data Analytics platform
Drive technical due diligence of technologies, 3rd party applications and vendors and make analytical recommendations
Qualifications
7+ years of experience going through all software development phases in a successful commercial software company developing complex, large-scale web applications
Experience with Hadoop and MapReduce technologies (e.g. Avro, Oozie, Pig, Hive, HBase)
High proficiency in Java and J2EE technologies
Solid understanding of Big Data concepts; firsthand experience with data warehousing concepts/methodologies
Great verbal and oral communication skills
Work effectively individually as well as collaboratively
Self start, fast learner and hard working
Readiness to work and collaborate with remote teams
Ability to communicate design rationale and build consensus
Comfortable working in a Linux development environment
Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related fields; advanced degree a plus
Experience in one or more of the following are pluses: SOA, BI, Mobile platform, Scrum development process
